The Smithsonian Institution’s National Zoological Park has animals, and lots of them. Don’t arrive between noon and 2pm, though, as that’s when most animals take their siesta.

Even if you just stand outside and stare, this is quite an amazing site. Tours, however, must be made through your member of congress, can be made up to six months in advance,and are scheduled one month in advance. Tough, but worth it!
The Washington Monument

Vietnam Veterans Memorial
